Notes

- High levels of yogurt consumption on improving gut barrier function, which separates the intestinal lumen and the underlying lamina propria. In the light of current findings, strengthening the gut barrier could mediate the health benefits of yogurt in adults.
- Higher yogurt consumption was associated with lower soluble CD14 concentrations, especially in men. Our findings suggest the strengthening of gut barrier function as a plausible mechanism for the observed inverse associations of yogurt consumption with gastrointestinal diseases and disorders involving other systems.

-Plasma sCD14 is a receptor molecule released by macrophages and hepatocytes as part of the innate immune response to lipopolysaccharide and has been used as a marker of gut hyperpermeability.
